Siding Replacement Continues

NLC outside Before Siding Complete

Within the past year, the restoration of the Norwegian Church took a big step forward, as the entire front and most of the south side of the church were re-boarded with clapboard siding. The work was carried out by contractor John Hamilton. Hamilton also completed needed tower and roof repairs.

Community Interest

The Calumet community has shown a strong interest in the project as shown by the many passerby who stopped to favorably comment. John Hamilton and his crew will return this summer for two weeks to continue the siding project. Siding replacement has been the biggest expense for the Society thus far. Contributions toward this effort are most welcome.

Shoring Up the Foundation

church floor cracked

Board member Bill Kallman continues to apply his engineering expertise to structural problems in the century-old building. So that the church remains on a firm foundation, Bill has focused his attention on the immediate problems in the basement. Beginning in the fall and through the winter, Bill and his son designed a drainage system for the basement which was prone to collecting water. A sump pump was installed in 2004 which has improved the situation greatly. Thanks to Bill for stemming the rising tides in the basement. Bill Kallman at Yahoo.com
